“Beauty is about perception, not about make-up. I think the beginning of all beauty is knowing and liking oneself. You can’t put on make-up, or dress yourself, or do you hair with any sort of fun or joy if you’re doing it from a position of correction.”
Kevyn Aucoin
I think this quote speaks so much truth. So many people look at themselves in the mirror and just see their flaws that supposedly need correcting rather than enhancing. It’s difficult these days to feel happy in ones own skin due to the current beauty trends in the social media of which we have become accustomed to extremely rigid and uniform standards of beauty. By presenting an ideal difficult to achieve and maintain, it presents many men and women with an ultimatum, and whether they feel they fit in or not. We are all more obsessed with our appearance than we like to admit. However, where make up is concerned i feel very passionatly about the fact that we should not hide behind our make-up and conceal and cover up certain features that may be deemed unconventional or imperfect, but however to enhance a woman’s own individual and original beauty rather than conforming to an ideal presented through the media. Make-up should make you feel confident, happy, natural, beautiful and authentic in your own skin, and should show your personality and sense of self.
